Forest Families

‘Forest Families’ is a new programme which takes place in our wonderful mini-forest called the Wild Space in Dublin Zoo. It is a fun hands-on family learning experience where you will discover lots about nature. Each session is different so you are welcome to book on to all of them! You and your little ones can learn about trees (March), biodiversity, pollinators and birds.

Forest Families is open to families with children aged between 4 and 12. In each session you will have facilitation from an expert teacher, work from a bespoke family worksheet and have lots of follow up activities to do in your local park. In each session you will be given a set of resources to help you discover more in nature.

*Dates and times:

Saturday 9th March – 10 am to 12 noon – Tree-mendous Trees

Saturday 13th April – 10 am to 12 noon – Bugs and Biodiversity

Saturday 11th May – 10 am to 12 noon – Beautiful Birds

Saturday 8th June – 10 am to 12 noon – Flowers and Pollinators

 Cost:

The prices below include expert facilitation in our exclusive Wild Space, bespoke materials such as ID kits (Trees), bug viewers (Biodiversity), Bird ID book (Birds) and Bumblebee ID kits (Flowers and pollinators) AND entry to Dublin Zoo

Wild Behaviour at the Zoo

Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Part of the work of a modern zoo is to look at natural animal behaviours and to ensure that animals are kept active, busy and stimulated in their environment. Come along to learn about the natural behaviours that Dublin Zoo’s animals exhibit and the different ways of enriching their lives.

Age: 8-12 years

Did you know? Dublin Zoo is home to over 50 species of native and migrant birds, Come and join us for a bird watching morning where our experienced guides will teach you about the wide variety of birds that live around the Zoo.

Age: This event is suitable for all ages, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dublin Zoo’s DES approved week-long summer in-service course for teacher go on sale this week. The ever-popular course aims to provide participants with active engagement in teaching and learning using Dublin Zoo as a living classroom. It provide participants with the skills, knowledge and tools to teach the Social, Environmental and Science Education (SESE) in their primary schools. Once equipped with these skills our goal is that teachers enable the students to live as an informed and caring member of local and wider communities.

 

Topics will be delivered by expert facilitators in our new Discovery and Learning Centre and from our immersive living classroom, the grounds of Dublin Zoo. Teachers participating will have exclusive access to our state-of-the-art teaching spaces as well as the opportunity to explore the zoo after the daily programme.

 

Course info:

1st to 5thJuly - 5 days (20 hours)

The course will run from 10 am – 2:45 pm each day

Successful completion of the course entitles participant to three EPV days

€90 per person*

Dublin Zoo's summer camps are designed for children aged 6–12 years old to have fun learning about the animals at Dublin Zoo, getting an introduction to conservation and gaining an overall appreciation for wildlife. This weeklong camp includes exciting hands-on activities, craft projects and walks through the Zoo (but no direct contact with animals).

Time: 10.00am - 2.30pm daily Monday to Friday 

Age: 6 - 12 years (children will be assigned to age-related groups)

Cost: €135 (annual pass holders) €145 (non-annual pass holders)
